Certified Pesticide Applicators
Volunteers treat stumps to prevent re-growth, individually or as part of a workday group. Those who want to become Certified Pesticide Applicators must pass the State’s "Right of Way" test as training. The study guide and test costs $50. We will provide a kit with supplies and herbicide.

Donald Park Habitat Restoration Projects
Donald Park habitat restoration projects are done on Tuesday mornings and on the first and third Saturdays of the month from 8:30-noon throughout the year. Meet at the "bunkhouse" on Sutter Drive in the park. Field work, seed collecting and scattering and developing equestrian trails are some of the projects.

Field Work
Field Work involves using bow saws, loppers and stump pullers to remove invasive and non-native species. This allows native species to thrive with less competition. We provide tools, or you can bring your own. This can be a great project for families to do together, as kids over ten years old are welcome when accompanied by parents or other adults who can supervise them.

Individually Arranged Projects
Individually arranged projects are always possible at Dane County Parks. If your group has a specific date in mind, or even if you don’t, and would like to do a community service project, we will arrange a project for you that suits your schedule, your group’s age, and our needs. And if you are just one person with an idea, give us a call and we’ll see how we can work together.

This is a new volunteer position that has been developed to provide safe, clean, effective and accessible tools and equipment for volunteers. This project is suitable for an individual, or a couple of people together. We’re looking for people who are familiar with tools, how they work and are used, and who have an ability to diagnose a problem and fix it.
