If you are a program chair for your civic group, lunch time learning group, church, temple, mosque, parent, current issues group, etc. and are looking to host a discussion on a topic relevant to all, consider hosting a meeting focused on food! Our food system is complex and touches many aspects of our daily lives. With the current interest in buying local and eating healthy, there are a variety of issues you could explore through discussion:

  • what we eat
  • food production
  • slow food
  • food rituals
  • health/nutrition
  • safety of our food
  • how food habits are creating unhealthy children
  • the fate of our areas farmers
  • food justice
  • sustainable food systems
  • food access and security
  • eating local

As local advocates on food issues, food council members are available to help you make your event a reality. Council members are willing to share their expertise as farmers, urban planners, communicators, marketers, and teachers. They can facilitate a discussion, make a visual presentation, answer questions, or help you plan an onsite event. Council members have done presentations for Wisconsin Early Childhood Association, EnAct Madison, Smart Growth Conference, First Lutheran Church, Boldt Company, Wisconsin Association of Family & Consumer Sciences, West Madison Senior Kiwanis, Middleton Sustainability Seminar, and PEO Madison (just to name a few.)
