Mission Statement

The Dane County Food Council explores issues and develops recommendations to create an economically, socially, and environmentally sustainable local food system for the Dane County region.

Dane County Food Council Established to Improve Local Food System

On October 6th, 2005, Dane County adopted Resolution 90, 2005-06 which created a Food Council to do the following:

  • Support the development of infrastructure and marketing opportunities for local foods
  • Initiate local purchasing in county food service facilities
  • Support development of a Central Agriculture and Food Facility (CAFF) and Public Market
  • Establish a countywide network of farmers markets
  • Support "Entrepreneurial Agriculture" and innovative farmland preservation initiatives
  • Promote the use of local foods to improve health and nutrition

This council was created on recommendation of the Local Food Policy Advisory Subcommittee in their "Recipe for Success" Report, which is available online (Full Report or the Executive Summary, (Download Viewer)

Meeting Dates

The Dane County Food Council meets the fourth Monday of every month from 6:30 to 8:30 pm. Meetings are scheduled through December 2008 as follows:

  • January 28th
  • March 3rd (meeting from 5:30pm - 9pm in room AB of the Lyman Anderson Center, 1 Fen Oak Ct., Madison, WI)
  • March 24th
  • April 28th
  • May 19th (3rd Monday)
  • June 23rd
  • July [no meeting]
  • August 25th
  • September 22nd
  • October 27th
  • November 24th
  • December 15th (3rd Monday)

Unless otherwise indicated, the meetings are located at the Office of Campus Community Partnerships/MATC, Villager Mall Suite 1D, 2300 S. Park Street, Madison, WI 53713.
