Locator for Thermally Sensitive Areas:
Dane County Parcel Numbering System

Example parcel number: 070923409283

Explanation:
Township and Range Number- There are 35 townships in Dane County, each with a unique combination of township and range numbers. The map to the right shows township and range numbers for each township.

T07N, R09E is highlighted since it contains the location of the sample parcel.

The townships shown to the right are sometimes referred to as congressional townships because their boundaries are fixed (unless they are changed by an act of Congress). Some people are more familiar with municipal civil divisions (cities, towns and villages) than congressional townships. However, these boundaries often change as cities, towns and villages annex land, so it was decided to use the congressional township boundaries for the locator tool.

Notes:
-The final digit of a parcel number is the computer calculated check factor. This number is not needed by the locator so it will be removed if entered in the parcel search form.
-Parcel numbers are sometimes listed with hyphens. The locator does not need these hyphens so it will remove them if they are entered in the parcel search form.
-Parcel numbers are sometimes prefixed with a 3 digit number followed by a backslash (state municipality code). This information is not needed by the locator so it will remove them if they are entered in the parcel search form.
