The Land Evaluation Site Assessment (LESA) system was developed by the NRCS-USDA with land
use planners from Arizona State University and Oregon State University. It is a
numeric rating system for scoring land to help with making land-use decisions on farmland.
LESA uses both Land Evaluation (LE) and Site Assessment (SA) factors. Land Evaluation (LE) factors are based on
soil-based qualities and may include: land capability classes, soil productivity
ratings, soil potential ratings, and important farmland classes.
Site Assessment (SA) component identifies social,
economic, and geographic factors that affect land-use decision making.
