The Dane County Board of Supervisors established the Local Emergency Planning Committee (LEPC) in 1987 in accordance with the provisions of the Federal Emergency Response Community Right-to-Know Act of 1986. In order to protect the community from harmful and possible life-threatening effects of a hazardous materials release, the LEPC purpose is to develop policies, procedures, and emergency plans for prevention of and responding to accidental releases of hazardous chemicals.
