Dane County Townships and Municipal Civil Divisions

This map shows the difference between Dane County municipal civil divisions (cities, villages and towns) and and survey townships. The township boundaries (red lines) are fixed, while the municipal civil division boundaries frequently change as cities and villages annex land. The municipal civil division boundaries shown here are current as of June 13, 2002. Note that town boundaries generally follow survey township boundaries, except in the northwest corner of the county, where the civil towns of Black Earth and Mazomanie are not the same as survey townships.
