New Land & Water Resources Department
The 2005 Dane County budget created the new Land and Water Resources Department (LWRD), effective January 1, 2005, by merging the Parks Department, Land Conservation Department, and Lakes and Watershed Division of the County Executive’s Office. The goal of the new LWRD is to protect and restore Dane County’s natural resources and to promote the sustainable and environmentally responsible enjoyment of public natural areas. Look for web site changes in the future.
Dane County Erosion Control & Stormwater Management
The Dane County Erosion Control and Stormwater Management Ordinance became effective August 22, 2002. Follow this link to view the Department of Land and Water Resources' new Erosion Control and Stormwater Management Permits page:

Wisconsin Working Lands Initiative
The Wisconsin Working Lands Initiative was passed as a part of the state’s 2009-2011 biennial budget process. Components include: expanding Wisconsin's Farmland Preservation Program; establishing Agricultural Enterprise Areas; and developing a purchase of agricultural conservation easement matching grant program. The goal of the Working Lands Initiative is to achieve preservation of areas significant for current and future agricultural uses through successful implementation of these components.
