| I'm happy to announce that the Adult Conservation Team Web
page is up and running on the Internet! You can check on current volunteer opportunities,
special events, and see how this newsletter looks with color photos. Events , workdays and
other topics of interest can be reached directly through "Coming Attractions"
buttons on the home page. You can also access the Dane County Parks home page, which is
still a work in progress, through the Adult Conservation Team site. The Adult Conservation
Team web page address is: http://www.co.dane.wi.us/lwrd/parks/adult_conservation_team/

For information about these and other volunteer
projects, contact Louise at 246-5366 NATURAL AREAS & PARKS Adult and family seed collecting will be Tuesday, October 6 at 5:30 in the E-Way, and Friday, October 23 at 10:00 in the Green Prairie. Field Work in the Ice Age Trail Junction Area, Saturday, September 19, 9:00-3:00. The workday will take place in the section north of Cross-Country Rd. The Dane County Chapter of the Ice Age Park & Trail Foundation will assist. Nine Springs E-Way, McCoy Rd: Field Work sponsored by the Nine Springs Network the second Saturday of the month (September 12, October 10), from 9:00-noon. Meet along the north side of McCoy Rd. between Syene Rd. and Hwy. 14, just west of the railroad tracks. Tools provided. The Network also meets the third Monday of every month at 7:00 p.m. at the All Saint's Lutheran Church in Fitchburg. Contact Victoria Jagar at 255-7631 for information about the Nine Springs Network. Weed control in prairies: If you're interested in helping the Prairie Foster Parents working in various prairies, give us a call. Work areas are at Lake Farm, Walking Iron, Schumacher, and Donald Parks, and in the Nine Springs E-Way and the Ice Age Trail Junction Area. The work involves mostly digging weeds. OTHER OPPORTUNITIES Do you want to help but prefer indoor work to hacking honeysuckle? You can come in on a regular basis and help with data entry and other office work. Experience with computers, especially Microsoft Access, would be great but we will train. Come join our congenial office! Attention Paddlers and Other River Lovers! The Maunesha River from Marshall to the Deansville State Wildlife Area was identified as a potential water-based trail in the 1996-2000 Parks and Open Space Plan. Due to downed trees and other obstructions, the river is only partially navigable. A local paddler, Steve Falter, has taken it upon himself to get the river cleared. Although this is not a Dane County Parks property, we support the goals of the project, have helped to coordinate it with State and local officials, and have provided Steve and others with tools. Two workdays has already taken place, with participation from local citizens and members of Mad-City Paddlers, and more are planned. The river is truly a little gem and will eventually provide paddlers and others with a very satisfying experience. Future work days are July 11, August 1, August 22, September 19 and October 10. Meet at Riley-Deppe County Park on Hwy. 19 just west of Marshall, at 9:00 a.m. We encourage interested people to call Steve Falter, learn more about the project, and volunteer to help. His phone number is 223-0995. Steve is also looking for volunteers with Jon boats with gas engines, and trucks with winches. |
