Middleton Students Make Donation
The Middleton High School Ecology Club and the Middleton High School Community recently donated $1,000 to Dane County Parks, to be used for improvements at the County's property in Pheasant Branch. Students have been volunteering at that site for three years, working on Saturday mornings with the Friends of Pheasant Branch. Teacher Mike Duren expressed their feelings in a letter: "We feel incredibly lucky to have such an outstanding natural resource in our community...The opportunity for MHS students to have been and continue to assist in the restoration work has been a wonderful experience; it's given students and adults a chance to appreciate each other as well as a sense of being a part of something very worthwhile. Kids having fun, working hard, and making a difference. What a concept." The check was presented by teachers Mike Duren and Deb Weitzel, and by students and alumni who returned for the presentation. Guerdon Coombs of the Friends of Pheasant Branch was also on hand. |
HELP!! "ACTION" Is Looking For Sponsors and Supporters "ACTION" is the voice of the Adult Conservation Team. Through this newsletter we promote volunteer projects, recognize and applaud our volunteers and pass along information about Dane County Parks. "ACTION" is distributed to over 900 volunteers, organizations, non-profits, recreational user groups, schools, libraries, and to every County department. Although this is a pretty simple newsletter, with production costs kept at a minimum, it takes a big bite out of the Adult Conservation Team annual budget. We need your help! Do you know of a business, foundation or organization willing to support volunteers and the environment? Perhaps if you have such contacts, you'd be willing to help us make an appeal to them. We are looking for both cash donations and a business that would print the newsletter for us. Yes, we are shamelessly soliciting you here, so call Louise at 246-5366 if you have any ideas. We'll be happy to discuss how you can help, and how we will thank sponsors and donors. |
