The numbers are in for 1998, and the Adult Conservation Team had a very good year. Total volunteer hours are 18,690, contributed by a total of 2,211 volunteers! In terms of total hours worked, natural areas projects and campground hosting are by far the most heavily represented. To me, this reflects the great desire volunteers have to make a direct and positive impact on the environment and on people’s lives. There will be many opportunities to continue this important work in 1999, and we invite you to join in the fun.

Friends of Dane County Dog Parks, a group of interested dog owners, is raising funds to fence a 40 acre dog park at Token Creek Park and to create a parking lot for this site. The 40 acre parcel of land is located on Anderson Road (off Portage Road), on the southeast side of Token Creek Park. Their goal is to raise $4,500 by early Spring so that the Parks Department can get the land fenced for use this summer.
Tax deductible donations to this cause can be made payable to:

Donors of $100 or more will be recognized on an engraved plaque that will be exhibited on a kiosk at the dog park.
If you have questions, or would like to volunteer to help with this project, please call co-chairs Bev Duerst, (608) 846-7072 or Janet Vener (608) 837-9356, or Louise Goldstein at Dane County Parks, (608) 246-5366. |
Canterbury Booksellers Supports the Adult Conservation Team
Canterbury Booksellers has a receipt-saving program that benefits local organizations, including the Adult Conservation Team. When you purchase books there, ask them to save the receipts in the “Dane County Parks Adult Conservation Team” envelope. When the totals of those receipts add up to $500, they will donate two rooms at the Canterbury Inn to the Adult Conservation Team (usually you just get one)! These rooms will be auctioned off at future picnics as a fundraiser to benefit the Adult Conservation Team. Each room in this delightful bed and breakfast above the bookstore is decorated in the Canterbury Tales theme, complete with an original mural. So, if you’re going to purchase books, especially over the holidays, consider shopping at Canterbury and benefiting the Adult Conservation Team. |
