Friends of Donald Park


The 450-acre Donald Park is located between Mt. Horeb and Mt. Vernon in the driftless area. The topography is rugged, with wooded tracts, wetlands, prairies, interesting rock formations and high quality trout streams.picture of flowers Under development is a recreational area with picnic ground, fishing, hiking, cross country and horse trails, and other recreational features. The park originated with a donation of land from the Delma Donald Woodburn family.

The Friends of Donald Park, Inc. “…promotes the development of the park through programs and activities that provide education, restoration and preservation of cultural and natural resources representing Dane County’s rural heritage.”

  • Equine and cross-country ski trail building and maintenance
  • Campsites
  • Council rings
  • Accessible fishing
  • Bluebird trails
  • Butterfly garden
  • Membership development

The Friends meet every Tuesday morning at the “bunkhouse” on Sutter Dr in the park for work parties. Every first and third Saturday they meet to work specifically on horse trails. The Friends of Donald Park work extensively with youth and schoolchildren.
