Dane County Land & Water Resources Parks Division Adult Conservation Team Natural Areas Manager

RESPONSIBLE TO: Dane County Parks Naturalist
OBJECTIVE: To have an independent, experienced volunteer take a leadership role to improve and maintain the quality of a natural, prairie or savannah over a period of time.
RESPONSIBILITIES: An intense concentration of attention and energy in a discrete area. Adopt a specific area as an individual or as a member of a volunteer force; develop a management plan. Duties may include: inventorying plants, birds, butterflies, expanding prairie, interpreting, giving tours, making kiosk materials, treating stumps, planting, leading other volunteers in work days, reporting activities and results.
Any activities involving volunteers should be coordinated by the Adult Conservation Team Manager. Keep track of hours you and other volunteers work.
QUALIFICATIONS: Background in natural resources, gardening, interpretation. Must be willing to be actively involved as a manager over time.
TRAINING & PREPARATION: Orientation to site and its characteristics; consultation on what needs to be done and how to do it; written material; seeds and/or plant material and specialized tools when necessary; other support as needed.
COMMITMENT: Willingness to
"adopt" and continuously manage an area for several years. An on-going serious
commitment.
EVALUATION: Verbal/written.
