Take a Stake in the Lakes
Take a Stake in the Lakes Clean Up Events are volunteer spring cleaning for Dane County lakes and streams sponsored by the Dane County Lakes and Watershed Commission.
It's a great opportunity for you to help take care of these popular natural resources. Take a Stake in the Lakes Clean Up Events are part of Take A Stake in the Lakes Days, promoting public awareness of our lakes and streams.
You Can Take a Stake in the Lakes!
- Collect aquatic debris and trash from the shoreline and shallow waters
of your favorite beach. Garbage bags are provided; call early to
get the beach or park you want.
- Mark storm drains with "Dump No Waste; Drains to Lake"
messages. Kits are provided. This message
educates the public about the connection between organic matter
in the street gutters and pollution in the lakes.
- SCUBA dives will be done when the water is still relatively clear,
from mid-May through early June.
SHORELINE RESIDENTS: Dane County Public Works barges will collect shoreline trash and aquatic debris from your piers starting on the Monday after your lake's scheduled cleanup. No yard waste or household waste, please!
If you or your group would like to get involved, call Rhea Stangel-Maier, Take a Stake in the Lakes Coordinator, at 224-3601, or e-mail stangel-maier@co.dane.wi.us.
