Permit Description and Instructions

A Dane County Zoning Permit is required to build or rebuild all or part of a home, accessory building,
commercial building and most other structures, even if you are only replacing all or part of a building
exactly as it existed before.
In general, any structural addition or any addition to the floor area of a building does need a Zoning Permit.
Zoning Permits are not usually required for work involving new roof shingles, gutters, soffits, siding,
doors or windows (except for new or replacement bay or bow windows or the like).
In most Towns, a Building Permit must be obtained from the Town Building Inspector or Clerk after you have
the Dane County Zoning Permit.
