Dane County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 6 people Saturday evening for Operating While Intoxicated (OWI).

Marine and Trail Deputies arrested Thomas G. Meyers, age 44 of McFarland, on Lake Mendota for Boating While Intoxicated. While this is Meyers first offense for Boating While Intoxicated, his record indicates he has been arrested for Operating a Motor Vehicle While Intoxicated on 7 prior occasions. Meyers was cited and released to a responsible party. In Wisconsin, boating offenses for OWI do not count against driving privileges.

A 24 year-old Monticello man was arrested in western Dane County for his 3rd OWI Offense. Four other drivers were arrested in the northeastern part of Dane County, all for their 1st offense. Deputies working the overtime grant enforcement for the Dane Firemen’s Festival made two of the arrests.

Last week the Dane County Sheriff’s Office announced the safe rider program available to persons going to the Dane Festival and encouraged anyone who had been drinking to take advantage of the free safe ride home. According to First Student, the bus company providing the transportation, 16 people used the service Friday night, while 36 people took the bus home on Saturday night.
