Rhythm and Booms is an annual event that many boaters look forward to. Watching the spectacular fireworks display from the serenity of the lake can be a highlight of the summer. Dane County Sheriff David Mahoney would like to remind boaters of some safety precautions to consider before going out on the lakes for Rhythm and Booms on Saturday, July 3rd.

A Slow-No-Wake rule is in effect from sunset until midnight. Slow / no wake means that speed at which a boat moves as slowly as possible while maintaining steerage control. Slow / no wake will be strictly enforced.

All motorboats which are anchored or adrift more than 200 feet from shore must show a 360 degree white light that is visible for two miles between sunset and sunrise.

Non-motorized boats must carry a white light strong enough for other boats to be seen from a distance of two miles.

Plan ahead by checking lights and other required equipment to insure that they are able to operate after dark.

Boating traffic is expected to be heavy. Expect delays at boat landings and the locks. Be courteous and have patience.

Boaters are encouraged to use a designated, sober driver. Fines for operating a boat while over the legal limit (.08 or above) of intoxication can range from $250.00 to $500.00.

Make sure everyone in the boat has a personal floatation device.

The Dane County Sheriff’s Office will have extra patrols on the water during this event and throughout the holiday weekend.
