At approximately 12:30 am on Saturday, July 17th, Dane County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the Village of Rockdale for a report of an intoxicated patron at Heather’s Bar who had left his small child in a truck in the parking lot.
The first deputy to respond found David R. Hines, age 33 of Cambridge, being held by two other bar patrons on the side of CTH B near S. Adams Street.
While at Heather’s Bar, located at 222 Water Street in Rockdale, a male patron exiting the bar observed a small child sleeping in a pickup truck in the parking lot. The keys were in the ignition of the truck. The male patron removed the keys and went back inside the bar, where he and another patron made contact with the owner of the truck, David Hines. When Hines realized that the police had been contacted he attempted to leave, but was unable to drive away without his keys. Hines then took his 3-year-old son out of the truck and began walking away from the bar. A fight ensued between Hines and the two male patrons, and Hines was held down until deputies arrived.
David Hines is currently being held in the Dane County Jail on tentative charges of Child Neglect, Disorderly Conduct while Armed, as well as an outstanding warrant for Operating After Revocation. The child was picked up from the incident by his mother who resides in Stoughton.
