At approximately 8:34 am, Dane County Sheriff’s Deputies, along with Deerfield Fire/EMS and the Red Cross, responded a structure fire at 514 Main Street in the Village of Deerfield.

The building consists of eight apartment units, however thanks to the quick response by emergency personnel, only one unit received damage from the fire.  The female resident of the apartment was not at home at the time, and her two cats were rescued.  All other tenants of the building will be permitted to return to their homes.  The damage is estimated to be approximately $20,000.

The investigation is ongoing, however the cause does not appear to be suspicious and looks to have originated from an electrical outlet.

***UPDATE***

August 2, 2010 – After further investigation, electrical problems were ruled out.  The cause of the July 26th, fire will be declared accidental, likely the result of an unattended candle or lighting material in the affected unit.  The damage is now estimated at approximately $60,000.00.  This investigation remains open by the Dane County Sheriff’s Office.
