FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE 12/23/2010

Unfortunately, for some children their Christmas will include visiting a parent or loved one in the Dane County Jail.  For over a decade now, Dane County Sheriff’s Deputy Darlynn Brown has worked to make that experience a little brighter.

Thanks to Deputy Brown’s efforts and many generous donations received throughout the year, the Books and Bears program will take place again this year.  Starting on Christmas Eve, every child that comes to visitation in the Dane County Jail over the holidays will receive a new book and a new stuffed animal.  Deputy Brown also takes the time to ensure that each book a child receives has a positive and uplifting message.

The Books and Bears program was created as a way to give children a positive interaction with law enforcement, something they may not have experienced in the past.  All of the gifts have been donated by local businesses or individuals.  The members of the Sheriff’s Office extend a special thank you to everyone who donated.  Without their generosity, the program would not be possible.
