At approximately 7:30 am, Dane County Sheriff’s deputies, along with Mazomanie and Black Earth Fire and EMS, responded to a three-vehicle crash on Highway 14 in front of Wisconsin Heights High School in the town of Black Earth.

A black Saturn sedan was traveling westbound on Highway 14.  The female driver slowed down to make a left turn into the parking lot of the high school, when she was rear-ended by a semi-truck operated by Gary J. Lammert, age 48 of Moffit, ND.  That impact then pushed the Saturn into oncoming traffic where it collided with a full-sized van traveling eastbound.

The female driver of the Saturn, age 22 of Platteville, was pronounced dead at the scene.  The driver of the van, Richard M. Butler, age 63 of Wonewoc, WI, was transported by Mazomanie EMS to Sauk Prairie Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.  Lammert, and his female passenger, Kerrie Lynn Wester, age 46 of Ranger, TX, were not injured.

The crash remains under investigation by the Dane County Sheriff’s Office.  The identity of the deceased female will be released by the Medical Examiner’s Office pending notification of family members.
