The Public Works, Highway, and Transportation Department (PWHT) is an agency within the Government
of Dane County, Wisconsin. It provides services to the local citizens, businesses, and government
agencies with regard to lakes, waste and recycling, engineering, and transportation management.
There are six divisions within PWHT that provide services for a specific program area:
The Public Works Engineering Division is responsible for designing, bidding, and managing construction
and facility improvement projects for Dane County.
The Public Works Lakes Division is responsible for aquatic weed harvesting on all of the County's lakes
as well as performing construction work on many County projects.
The Solid Waste / Recycling Division is responsible for the siting, construction, operation, maintenance,
closure, and post-closure care of Dane County's landfills, compost sites, and landfill gas-to-energy systems.
The Highway Engineering Division plans, designs and manages roadway related construction projects for
the County Trunk system.
The Highway Maintenance Division maintains all Interstate and State Highways (designated by numbers)
and all County Trunk Highways (designated by letters).
The Highway Administration Division designs, coordinates, and maintains transportation systems for
Dane County, Wisconsin.
