Recycling and Solid Waste Compost Sites

The compost sites are open for the 2008 season.

Yard wastes are banned from disposal at all landfills in the State of Wisconsin. To provide a method of recycling yard waste, Dane County operates three yard waste compost sites. All sites are available for people to bring non-woody yard waste to be composted. We do not accept brush, Christmas wreaths or garlands (because of the metal wire), or trash of any sort, such as pieces of fences, plastic bags or Styrofoam, plastic lawn edging or similar material.

For 2008, Dane County will be operating two screen plants, one each at Verona and Westport. Effective April 1, 2008, prices for screened compost are as follows:

Prices for SCREENED Compost
(Available at Verona and Westport)
Quad- and Tri-axle dump trucks  $150
Dual-axle dump trucks  $125
Single-axle dump trucks  $100
Pickup truck or trailer  $10

Unscreened compost will only be sold if screened material is unavailable at the particular site. Prices for unscreened compost are as follows:

Prices for Loading UNSCREENED Compost
(only if screened material unavailable)
Quad- and Tri-axle dump trucks  $100
Dual-axle dump trucks  $80
Single-axle dump trucks  $60
Pickup truck or trailer  $5

Please contact Robert Regan at 608-266-4139 with any questions regarding compost availability or pricing.
