On Sunday, May 15 at 4:52 am, Dane County Sheriff’s deputies were called to 10840 Blue Mountain Avenue in the Village of Blue Mounds for a reported gunshot injury. Upon arrival, deputies found six individuals in the home, with one of them suffering from a fatal gunshot injury. The Dane County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the victim as 19-year-old Marshall L. Iverson (Levi) of Mt. Horeb.

Sheriff’s Office detectives conducted extensive interviews related to the incident and all individuals were cooperative. The Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Unit also spent Sunday and Monday processing the scene and collecting evidence.

Twenty-year-old Isaiah M. Miller of Madison is currently being held in the Dane County Jail on tentative charges of Homicide by Negligent Handling of a Dangerous Weapon and Homicide by Intoxicated Use of a Firearm. Miller admittedly, but unintentionally, fired an AR-15 platform rifle killing his friend. Following the incident, Miller was taken to a local hospital where he consented to a blood test, the results of which are not yet available.

Firearms should always be treated with the utmost respect and never handled while under the influence of alcohol or other drugs. Always treat a gun as if it were loaded and never point a gun at anything you do not intend to destroy. The Dane County Sheriff’s Office in partnership with the Village of Blue Mounds Police Department are continuing to investigate the incident.

Our sincere condolences go out to the Iverson family on this tragic loss.
