October 11, 2002
Local first responders will share $227, 026 to buy terrorism preparedness equipment
County Executive Kathleen Falk announced today that Dane County will receive a $227,026 federal terrorism preparedness grant.
The money will be used to buy personal protective, detection, monitoring and communications equipment, and physical security enhancements and medical supplies for police officers, fire fighters and emergency medical technicians in communities throughout the county. Dane County Emergency Management will work with a committee made up of local first responders to assess equipment needs in light of the grant and past purchases.
In addition, the Dane County Sheriffs Department will receive $50,000 in equipment grants to help the bomb squad provide regional coverage.
"I'm very pleased to have received this grant on behalf of our local first responders. They are our first line of defense against terrorism. These dollars will help protect them, and will improve their ability to protect the rest of us," County Executive Falk said. "Dane County has been a leader in terrorism preparedness since 1997. The plans we have written and the process we have developed has become a model for communities throughout the state and the country."
