Media Invited to Adult Conservation Team Annual Celebration of Volunteers at Lussier Family Heritage Center

WHO: Dane County Executive Kathleen Falk will join Dane County Parks officials and numerous volunteers at the Dane County Parks Adult Conservation Team annual “Celebration of Volunteers.” The event recognizes individuals and groups who have volunteered for Dane County Parks over the last year. The lobby will be set up with displays showcasing the work some of the volunteer groups do in their particular parks. Volunteers will be served a buffet dinner. Adult Conservation Team volunteers include individuals, families, many different kinds of community groups and Friends of the Park groups. In addition to restoring native habitat and building trails, volunteers provide hospitality to campers, run bluebird trails, raise money for park amenities, coordinate special projects, mentor students, operate poetry trails and help with mailings and “ACTION,” the volunteer newsletter. WHEN: Wednesday, July 9 Falk’s availability is from 6:15 to 6:45 p.m. The event lasts from 6 to 8 p.m., with a short program at 6:30 p.m. WHERE: Directions to the Lussier Family Heritage Center, located in Lake Farm Park at 3101 Lake Farm Road: From the Beltline take the South Towne Road exit and go south. Then left on Moorland Road (just before the Farm Tavern). Half a mile down the road the name changes to Lake Farm Road; the Center is 2/10 of a mile beyond that on the left SUMMARY: 2002 Adult Conservation Team Total number of volunteers: 3,403 Total number of volunteer hours worked: 27,010 52 groups with 2,890 volunteers worked 13,835 hours. 513 individuals worked 13,175 hours.
