Louise Goldstein, Adult Conservation Team Manager for Dane County Parks, to Take on New Challenge

Louise Goldstein, who has coordinated the work of thousands of volunteers as Adult Conservation Team Manager for the Dane County Parks Department, will be focusing her energies in a new area—as Volunteer Coordinator/Senior Adult Program Coordinator for Jewish Social Services of Madison. Goldstein joined the Parks Department in February, 1992 and her last day with the county will be August 7. “Louise has done just a terrific job motivating and organizing our many residents who want to volunteer time to improve our parks and natural areas,” said Dane County Executive Kathleen Falk. “I wish her the best in her new position.” Adult Conservation Team volunteers restore native habitat and build trails, provide hospitality to campers, run bluebird trails, raise money for park amenities, coordinate special projects, lead student workdays in the field, operate poetry trails and help with mailings and “ACTION,” the volunteer newsletter. Goldstein also ran the popular “Take a Stake in the Lakes” lake and shoreline clean-up volunteer week. In 2001 the Adult Conservation Team won the “Acts of Caring” award from the National Association of Counties, for being “a community service provided by a county-sponsored volunteer program that enhances or preserves the quality of life "It has been a distinct pleasure working with the Adult Conservation Team volunteers. They are a dedicated group of people who know how to work hard and have a lot of fun. The County is very fortunate to have volunteers who are so passionate about the environment,” said Goldstein. The Adult Conservation Team grew from a couple of hundred volunteers and 6,000 volunteer hours in the first year to over 3,400 volunteers and 27,000 volunteer hours in 2002. There are eight Friends of the park groups. Volunteers, colleagues and other friends will have a chance to say goodbye to Louise on September 18, 2003 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at the Lussier Family Heritage Center, 3101 Lake Farm Road.
