County Executive Falk and Aging Task Force Seek Advice on Needs of Baby Boomers

What will baby boomers need when they retire? Dane County Executive Kathleen Falk and the Dane County Task Force on Aging are looking for area residents to help answer this question. They are seeking volunteers to serve on six workgroups being formed to determine needs and develop plans for serving baby boomers who will begin retiring in the next several years. “By the year 2020, the number of Dane County residents age 65 and over will grow from 40,000 to 70,000,” said Falk, who formed the task force. “Not only will there be more seniors who need services, they may need different services because of the changing needs of our aging population.” The Task Force on Aging has identified six workgroups that will take a closer look at the issues of Economics, Education and Active Aging, Housing and Infrastructure, Medical/Health Care, Public Safety, and Transportation. Dane County residents who are interested in serving on one of the Task Force on Aging workgroups should contact the Dane County Area Agency on Aging office at 224-3660 by September 15. “We need our residents’ help to ensure that Dane County is aware of emerging needs for our aging population and has a plan for how we, as a community, will address those needs,” said Dane County Supervisor Judy Wilcox, chair of the County Board’s Health and Human Needs Committee. Nationwide there are 70 million baby boomers, defined as those born from 1946 to 1964, who will begin retiring in 2007. ###
