Take a Stake in the Lakes, the annual volunteer shoreline cleanup, begins on Saturday morning, June 11 on Lakes Mendota, Wingra and Kegonsa. Take a Stake in the Lakes is part of the Dane County Lakes and Watershed Commission’s Yahara Lakes Week, a weeklong celebration of Dane County’s beautiful lakes and streams. Dane County Executive Kathleen Falk encourages people to volunteer for the lakes clean-up: “Our lakes are probably the most loved and most used natural resources in Dane County. The clean-up helps keep them healthy and fun to use. We can really use your help.” The Information Center on June 11th will be at Wingra Park (824 Knickerbocker Street, near the canoe rental) in Madison. Volunteers are welcome to come to Wingra Park at 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 noon to help. On Saturday, June 18, Lakes Monona and Waubesa will be the center of attention, with the Information Center at Law Park from 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 noon. The 105.5 Triple M Green Team will be there along with any other volunteers who come to the information center that morning. Storm drain marking kits will also be available both Saturdays for those looking for alternative activities. "This is a wonderful opportunity to clean up our lakes that make Dane County such a great place to live," said Brett Hulsey, Dane County Supervisor and Chair of the Lakes and Watershed Commission.
