Former City Alder to Join Staff of Dane County Executive Falk

A former city of Madison alderman serving as a city alcohol license review commissioner and Associate State Public Defender this month will join the staff of Dane County Executive Falk as an executive assistant specializing in criminal justice issues and human services. Jose M. Sentmanat of Madison, who will start on March 19, represented the city’s 5th district on the Common Council from April 1999 to April 2001. “I am extremely happy to welcome Jose to the office, where his expertise in criminal justice issues will be of tremendous service to Dane County citizens,” Falk said of Sentmanat, who has represented defendants in criminal cases as an associate state public defender for Walworth County since December 2005. “His impressive record also includes work as a union organizer, college instructor and airborne infantryman with the U.S. Army.” As part of his U.S. Army career, Sentmanat graduated from Airborne School at Fort Benning, Ga., served as an infantryman for more than three years. He also was awarded the Federal Service Medal in May 1987. Sentmanat is a University of Wisconsin-Madison Law School graduate. He also earned his master’s in philosophy from University of California Riverside and his undergraduate degree in philosophy from Florida International University in Miami. Sentmanat will replace former executive assistant Ken Haynes, who retired from government service on Sept. 8, 2006. His salary will be $67,038 per year. # # #
