Dane County Executive Kathleen Falk today issued her 2008 budget requirements to county-elected officials, County Board supervisors and county department heads – her 11th annual spending plan focused on public safety, human services programs and the environment. Falk’s guidelines call for a requirement to cut costs or raise non-tax revenue for each county department, with the exception of the 911 Center. For other departments with budgets more than $3 million, Falk’s target to cut base costs supported by taxes is 3.7%, and for smaller departments and programs the target is 1.85%. Collectively, the budget target for all county departments is approximately $5.7 million. “These requirements are strict but necessary in light of the needs to maintain services and limit property taxes in fiscally challenging circumstances,” Falk said. County department heads and elected officials will work on their budgets during the coming months and submit them to the County Executive. The County Executive will present her budget to the County Board October 1, 2007. The budget memo is attached. # # #
