FEMA Preliminary Damage Assessments
Today Federal Emergency Management (FEMA) performed a public infrastructure preliminary damage assessment in Dane County. The damage assessment team started with an introduction from County Executive Kathleen Falk and briefing from Dane County Emergency Management. The team visited the communities of the Town of Primrose, the Town of Verona, the Village of Oregon, and the City of Monona. Although they did not visit all areas impacted by flood waters, the FEMA preliminary damage assessments, along with the information collected by Dane County Emergency Management, are being submitted to Wisconsin Emergency Management for Governor Doyle to include when requesting federal disaster assistance. Any questions relating to FEMA damage assessments can be addressed by FEMA Public Information Officer Doug Ward at either 608 / 242-3325 or 337 / 281-4358.
Agricultural producers in Dane County are eligible for USDA assistance. For more information, please contact the Dane County Farm Service Agency office at 224-3767.
As of this afternoon, damage reported to Dane County Emergency Management totals as follows:
Private sector damage (estimate) $3,294,210
Public sector damage (estimate) $1,643,101
TOTAL ESTIMATED DAMAGE $4,937,311
These numbers are estimates. They can be expected to fluctuate as other areas of damage are discovered and reported to Dane County Emergency Management.
A “Slow, No Wake Order” remains in effect across all four lake in Dane County until water levels recede to safe levels. Dane County Departments of Emergency Management and Dane County Land and Water Resources continue to monitor the lake levels.
