(Madison)…Dane County Executive Kathleen Falk announced today that motorists will be able to resume travel on the Highway PB bridge over the Sugar River in the Town of Montrose Friday, December 21st. “The new and improved Highway PB bridge will improve traffic safety in southern Dane County and ensure motorists are able to get where they’re going in a timely fashion,” Falk said. Highway PB links the historic southern Dane County communities of Paoli, Belleville, and Verona. An estimated 7500 vehicles travel over the bridge daily. Dane County contracted with Zenith Tech for the $400,000 bridge reconstruction project that started September 6th. Completion was delayed a few weeks after attentive work crews noticed a girder under the bridge needed additional maintenance. Mother Nature also made getting the job done a challenge. Recent heavy snows and bitter cold slowed final completion. “Crews even set up make-shift tents and heaters at the worksite in recent weeks to ensure paint would dry and the job would get done,” Dane County Public Works, Highway, and Transportation Director Jerry Mandli said. “Needed repairs and safety improvements were made and thousands of motorists will benefit daily from this safer, wider bridge,” Falk said. # # #
