Fire Destroys Barn

Madison, WI. January 22, 2008 – At approximately 5:33 p.m., Dane County Sheriff’s Deputies responded with Edgerton, Ft. Atkinson, Stoughton and Cambridge Fire Departments to a reported barn fire at 34 Craig Road in the Town of Albion. The homeowner saw the fire from her residence and alerted her spouse, who was feeding horses in the barn. The homeowner was able to safely evacuate the barn and was not injured. The barn was utilized to store construction tools, a truck, forklift, and bales of hay. Additionally, horses were kept in the barn . All the horses were moved to safety and none were injured. The barn and its contents were valued in excess of $150,000 and are considered a total loss. Electrical heat tape, used to wrap around pipes to prevent freezing, may be the source of the fire.
