UPDATE Deputy Struck by Suspect in Vehicle Pursuit

Madison, WI. March 28, 2008 – At approximately 3:15 p.m. Dane County Deputies located the suspect driver and initiated another vehicle pursuit in the area of Interstate Highway 94 and County Highway N. The vehicle pursuit continued East on Interstate Highway 94. The Wisconsin State Patrol and later the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department were involved in the pursuit that ended at approximately 3:30 p.m. near Johnson Creek in Jefferson County. The juvenile driver was taken into custody by Dane County and Jefferson County Deputies and the Wisconsin State Patrol.
The juvenile driver is being held at the Dane County Juvenile Reception Center on tentative charges of Eluding and Operating a Motor Vehicle Without Owner’s Consent. The Dane County Sheriff’s Office and the Wisconsin State Patrol are continuing to investigate the incident. The Dane County Sheriff’s Office who is conducting the criminal investigation expects more charges to be forthcoming.
The Deputy who was struck is in serious but stable condition at an area hospital.
