Deputy Struck by Suspect in Vehicle Pursuit

Madison, WI. March 28, 2008 – At approximately 2:09 PM, a Dane County Sheriff’s Deputy was struck during a vehicle pursuit that began with Madison Police on Highway 51 near Schneider Drive. Dane County Sheriff’s Deputies joined in the pursuit of the erratic driver on Sprecher Road in the town of Blooming Grove and continued northbound on Highway 151. As a Dane County Sheriff’s Deputy was placing spikes in the road in an attempt to stop the suspect vehicle, the suspect swerved and struck the deputy. The deputy has been transported by med-flight to UW Hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries. The suspect remains at large in a vehicle believed to be stolen earlier today from a location in Stoughton. The vehicle is a black 2006 Dodge Stratus, license plate number 514 CJX. Anyone who sees this vehicle is asked to call 911 immediately.
