Precautionary Measures at Public Safety Building - Update

Late this afternoon a letter containing a white substance was opened in the Dane County Public Safety Building’s mail room. The mail room clerk followed protocol and reported the incident immediately to the supervisor. The mailroom was evacuated and potentially exposed personnel were contained. Upon further examination and consultation with emergency medical services, the mailroom clerk was transported, as a precautionary measure, to a local hospital for further examination. The Madison Fire Department’s Hazardous Incident Team (HIT) is on scene and taken precautionary measures to prevent further exposure to the unknown substance. **Update** A sample of the substance was taken to the State Hygiene Lab for further testing. It was determined the substance was not dangerous nor posed a health hazard. This incident remains under investigation by the Dane County Sheriff’s Office.
