Following are guidelines to follow when using the Tenney Park Lock: 1. Due to congestion above the locks, a locks permit will not be required to travel down river from Lake Mendota to Lake Monona. A lock permit will be required for each watercraft to travel up river from Lake Monona to Lake Mendota. Restroom facilities and a self-registration station are located below the Lock to purchase a daily pass for $5.00 or an Annual Pass for $20.00. Locks permits are also available at the Parks Office, 4318 Robertson Rd. Madison, Wisconsin 53714. 2. All boaters must use patience and wait their turn in line when entering the locks. 3. Shut off motors to prevent build up of fumes inside the locks, allowing everyone to breathe fresh air. 4. Chains are provided on the walls of the lock chamber to aid in controlling the boat when the water level changes. 5. Remain inside the boat and seated to prevent injury when the water level changes. 6. Smoking is prohibited while you are in the lock chamber. Exhaust fumes or gas from unspent fuel could ignite or explode. 7. Do not exit the boat while in the locks. Failure to follow these guidelines may create a hazardous situation that may result in an injury.
