County Executive

Dane County Executive Kathleen Falk announces that the newly renovated Tenney Lock will open for the 2006 boating season at 9:00 AM on Friday, May 26th. Dane County is completing an $850,000 Tenney Lock and Boathouse Restoration Project, begun in January of 2006. Falk said: “These improvements make the locks more reliable, increase access for disabled persons, and enable us to control lake levels more quickly and accurately.” Some of the key accomplishments of the project include: · New hydraulics and floodgates, increasing the reliability and functioning of the locks. · Lighthouse repairs, which will enable it to be operational for the first time in many years. · Improved access for disabled persons; · Increased parking. Because of the recent rainy weather, some painting, landscaping, and paving must still be completed. A ribbon-cutting ceremony will be scheduled for Friday morning, May 26th. Please be advised, that due to construction activity related to the East Washington Avenue Bridge, the river will be intermittently closed to boat traffic throughout the fall until the bridge is completed. This will apply to the locks as well. If you have any questions regarding the 2006 Lock schedule or the operation of the facility, please contact the Dane County Parks at (608) 246-3896 or check the following website for the updated summer schedule and any planned lock closings: www.co.dane.wi.us/lwrd/parks/tenneylockshours.asp. # # #
