Multiple Vehicle Crashes on State Highway 14 Town of Black Earth

Madison, WI. 11-27-07 – At approximately 4:00 p.m. Dane County Sheriff’s Deputies along with Middleton Police, Mount Horeb Police, Black Earth and Mazomanie Fire/EMS responded to the area of State Highway 14 and Kahl Road in the Town of Black earth for a multiple vehicle crashes. The initial crash occurred when Jessica L. Jelle 28, Madison, traveling Eastbound on STH 14 passed a vehicle on the right on STH 14 and Kahl Rd. Her front wheel went off the pavement; she overcorrected, went across traffic, and struck a westbound vehicle driven by Allan L. Heffner 55, Madison. Heffner was transported to UW Hospital with minor injuries. Jelle was cited for failure to maintain control. Both occupants were wearing their seatbelts. While stopped because of the first crash on STH 14 and Schultz Road, Martha L. Bauer 25, and Andrew M. Bauer 28, were struck from behind by Deborah K. O’Connell 49, Martha Bauer was transported to Sauk Hospital for minor injuries. O’Connell was cited for Following Too Closely. All occupants were wearing their seatbelts. A third crash occurred on STH 14 and Schultz Road when a Westbound vehicle on STH 14 operated by Ronald Tamling 41 Gays Mills, struck the rear end of a vehicle stopped in traffic, causing a chain reaction crash damaging three other vehicles. Tamling was cited for Inattentive Driving. All occupants were wearing seatbelts. Traffic in the area was backed up for over an hour and forty-five minutes on STH 14 while emergency personnel treated the injured and the crashes investigated.
