Snowmobile Fatality Crash

Madison, WI. February 20, 2008 On Wednesday, February 20, at approximately 6:23pm., the Dane County Sheriff’s Office, Mt. Horeb Police Department, and Mt Horeb Fire & EMS responded to a report of a crash involving two snowmobiles on the Military Ridge Trail just east of Erbe Road in the Town of Blue Mounds. Preliminary investigations indicate that one driver was traveling eastbound on the trail from Blue Mounds. A group of four snowmobiles were traveling westbound on the trail from Mt. Horeb. The eastbound snowmobile driver and one of the westbound snowmobile drivers collided with each other resulting in the crash. The driver of the westbound snowmobile was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the eastbound snowmobile was transported to a local hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries. Names are being withheld pending notification of family members. Alcohol is being investigated as a possible contributing factor in this crash. Both drivers were wearing helmets. The crash remains under investigation by the Dane County Sheriff’s Office.
