Dane County Sheriff Citizen’s Academy Concludes

Sixteen people will graduate tonight from the 3rd Annual Dane County Sheriff’s Office Citizen’s Academy. Sheriff David Mahoney will present the class members with certificates at a 6:00 pm ceremony at the Dane County Law Enforcement Training Center. The group has been meeting every Tuesday evening for the past eleven weeks. The participants, who come from a wide range of backgrounds, have been able to experience everything from a ride-along with the Dane County Marine and Trail Enforcement deputies, to shooting a handgun, and touring the Dane County Jail facilities. The program was established to provide community members with an inside look at the Dane County Sheriff’s Office. Throughout the program participants receive an overview of the department’s operations and are introduced to all four divisions of the Sheriff’s Office. It is the goal of the program that class members will gain a greater awareness and understanding of law enforcement’s role in the community through education and participation.
