Two Vehicle Crash Kills One - Updated

At 6:16 p.m., the Dane County Communications Center received a report of a two-vehicle crash on Wilburn Road, near the intersection of Happy Valley Road, in the Town of Bristol. Dane County Sheriff’s Deputies, Sun Prairie, Burke/Bristol Fire Departments and Med-Flight, responded to the scene of the crash. Sun Prairie Police and the State Patrol also assisted with directing traffic near the crash site.
The investigation revealed a 1998 Chevrolet Cavalier, operated by a 16 year-old female of Sun Prairie, was traveling northbound on Wilburn Road, when she lost control of the vehicle and slid into the southbound lane of traffic. The vehicle was struck by a southbound, 1977 Cadillac Deville, operated by William W. Mead, 64, of Sun Prairie. The Cavalier then came to rest on the westbound side of Wilburn Road.
The driver of the Chevrolet Cavalier, who was wearing a seatbelt, was pronounced dead at the scene. Mead was not injured as a result of the crash. The name of the deceased driver is not being released at this time pending notification of family. Weather and road conditions appear to have contributed to the crash. This crash remains under investigation by the Dane County Sheriff’s Office.
UPDATE: The victim of the has been identifed ast Carly N. Batz, age 16 of Sun Prairie.
