Deputy Injured When Semi Hits Squad Car

Madison, WI: Tuesday, December 23, 2008 At 5:18 am a Dane County Sheriff's Deputy was assisting a tow truck operator, who was pulling a car from the median on USH 18/151, when the squad was struck from behind by an eastbound semi-tractor and trailer, 1/10 of a mile west of CTH E in the Town of Blue Mounds. The deputy had just gotten back into the squad car, with the emergency lights fully operating, when the semi jack-knifed and the trailer struck the rear of the squad. Mount Horeb Police Department and Mount Horeb EMS responded to render aid to the deputy, who suffered non-life threatening injuries. The deputy was transported to an area hospital for treatment. The driver of the semi, Stanley D. Borchardt, age 60 of Dayton, IA, was not injured. The Dane County Sheriff's Office Crash Reconstructionists were called in to assist in the crash investigation. The crash investigation is on-going at this time.
