VEHICLE PURSUIT ENDS IN OWI 5TH OFFENSE ARREST

Madison, WI. February 28th, 2009 – At approximately 11:06pm, a Deputy from the Dane County Sheriff’s Office attempted to initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle on Monona Drive at Broadway in the City of Monona. The vehicle refused to stop at which time a vehicle pursuit ensued. After approximately one mile, the driver of the fleeing vehicle pulled into an apartment complex parking lot in the 200 block of Frost Woods Road and exited the vehicle. The driver then began running through the residential area in an attempt to elude the deputy. After a short foot pursuit, the driver was apprehended and taken into custody without incident. The driver, Willie J. Hardnett, age 33 from Madison, was determined to be intoxicated and was subsequently booked into the Dane County Jail on charges of Operating a Motor Vehicle While Under the Influence of an Intoxicant (5th Offense), Eluding a Police Officer, Operating after Revocation (2nd Offense), Open Intoxicants in a Motor Vehicle, Unreasonable and Imprudent Speed and Failure to Follow Traffic Control Signal. No injuries were sustained by any parties involved in this incident.
