DANE COUNTY JAIL INMATE ATTEMPTS SUICIDE

 Madison, WI – At 2:13 p.m. Dane County deputies responded to an inmate of the Dane County Jail City – County Building attempting to commit suicide.

 The 22-year-old man, from Madison, attempted to hang himself while in his cell with a jail issued pillowcase. The inmate made a rope out of the torn pillowcase, which could not hold his weight. The rope broke and the inmate fell to the floor. Other inmates from the cellblock alerted deputies of the attempt. Deputies and medical staff immediately responded to the inmate.

The inmate was alert and conscious when responders arrived. Following the attempt, Madison Fire Department transported him to a local hospital for evaluation. The inmate sustained non-life threatening injuries from the fall. Upon return to the jail, he will be placed on full suicide precautions, which includes being placed in a safety smock and continually monitored.

The inmate is being held in the Dane County Jail on several serious charges, to include multiple counts of Armed Robbery.
