July 28, 2009
Lori Bastean, 242-6420.
County Executive

The public is invited to review and comment on the draft plans for how Dane County intends to allocate federal Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) and Home Investment Partnerships (HOME) funds in Dane County (outside the City of Madison) for the five-year period of 2010-2014. The County is considering priorities that focus on housing rehabilitation, homebuyer assistance, rental rehabilitation, economic development, public facilities, public services, and disaster assistance. Dane County is an Entitlement under the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) and Home Investment Partnerships (HOME) programs. The County receives approximately $1.1 million in CDBG funding and $548,775 in HOME funding. In order to allocate CDBG and HOME funds, HUD requires the development of a Consolidated Plan that governs how Dane County and the 55 participating municipalities expend the federal funds and the submittal of a One Year Action Plan. CDBG funds are intended to develop viable urban communities by providing decent housing and a suitable living environment, and by expanding economic opportunities, principally for low-and-moderate income persons. HOME funds are to be used exclusively to create affordable housing for low-income households. The CDBG Commission will hold a public hearing on the 2010-2014 Consolidated Plan and 2010 Action Plan on Thursday, August 27, 2009 beginning at 5:30 p.m. at the Town of Westport Town Hall; 5378 Mary Lake RD; Waunakee, Wisconsin. At the hearing, information will be provided to attendees regarding housing and community development needs in Dane County, the amount of entitlement funding the County expects to receive, the range of activities that may be undertaken, and proposed projects and activities. Members of the public will be provided an opportunity to ask questions regarding the Plans and to provide comment. Copies of the Draft 2010-2014 Consolidated Plan and 2010 Action Plan are available for public review and comment on the County web site at: http://www.danecountyhumanservices.org/cdbg_reports.shtm or at the Dane County Department of Human Services; CDBG Office; 1202 Northport DR/4th FL; Madison, WI 53704. Written comments on the Draft 2010-2014 Consolidated Plan and 2010 Action Plan will also be accepted at the Dane County CDBG Office, address listed above or via e-mail to cdbg@co.dane.wi.us, July 27 through August 27, 2009.
