Dane County Executive Joe Parisi announced today that he will hold a series of listening sessions in September to allow residents to provide their input for his 2014 budget proposal.

The cost of running county government – its services, programs, and people who deliver them – will be $7.5 million more in 2014 than this year.

This cost to continue, combined with continued state constraints, will require continued collaboration and innovation to reduce a reliance on county taxpayers while maintaining services residents expect and deserve.

To achieve this, the County Executive will continue his work to find and form partnerships to address the priorities of Dane County’s residents – from working with farm families and government entities like the Madison Metropolitan Sewerage District to clean up area lakes; to working with the United Way to address the achievement gap in schools; to working with DATCP, World Dairy Expo, and the Midwest Horse Fair to make improvements to the Alliant Energy Center that will benefit the regional economy.

“The partnerships my administration has achieved are leading to amazing changes throughout our community,” said Parisi.  “We’re doing more than we ever could alone to help families in need, strengthen our tourism and agriculture economies, and clean up our lakes.”

One of the listening sessions will be done jointly with the Dane County Board and focus primarily on the proposed human services budget – human services account for nearly 50% of Dane County’s over $500 million budget.  A full list of budget listening session dates and locations can be found below

In the weeks ahead, the County Executive will review these proposals, and seek input from the public, to complete his 2014 budget proposal for introduction by October 1st.
