County Opens New Disc Golf Course Near Lake Farm County Park Ahead of Fourth of July Holiday

Dane County Continues to Expand Course Offerings of Popular Sport

 

Dane County’s newest, highly-anticipated 18-hole disc golf course is officially open and ready to challenge players of the fast-growing sport, Dane County Executive Joe Parisi announced today.

 

“Dane County’s is such a great place to live, work, and play in large part due to our parks system and the diverse recreational opportunities we provide,” said Parisi.  “We are always working to improve our parks in ways that will meet public demand and offer even more ways for families to connect with nature and get outdoors.”

 

The new Capital Springs Disc Golf Course, located near Lake Farm County Park in the Capital Springs Recreation Area features 18 challenging holes surrounded by picturesque prairie restoration areas that help provide grassland bird habitat. 

 

A bicycle parking area will be provided off of the Capital City Trail allowing users to bike or drive to the course.  An educational kiosk with information regarding the many archaeological resources found throughout the Capital Springs Recreation Area will be installed later this summer.
 

The course was designed by retired professional disc golfer, and Token Creek County Park’s Vallarta-Ast course pro, Larry Ast, as well as members of the Mad City Disc Golf Club.  Ron James will serve as the Capital Springs course pro. 

 

"Mad City Disc Golf is excited to see the results of all the hard work that has gone into developing the Capital Springs disc golf course,” said Seth Johnson, president of the Madison Area Disc Golf Club.  “We're confident that our members, as well as other local and visiting disc golfers, will enjoy the new course."

 

The course is the Dane County Parks Department’s second disc golf course.  The first, Vallarta-Ast at Token Creek County Park, was expanded from 18 holes to 27 holes last year due to the growing popularity of the sport and that course. 
 

A Dane County disc golf permit works at both Capital Springs and Token Creek disc golf courses, but it is not accepted at City of Madison disc golf courses.  An annual disc golf permit is $48, and a daily permit $8.
