This 41-acre conservancy and historical park offers a glimpse of the past with its restored native oak savanna and cultural history. The buildings on the site are on are on the National Register of Historic Places that recognizes the site's original function as a County tuberculosis sanatorium from 1930 to 1966. Today, the buildings house the Dane County Human Services Department. The park surrounds the office buildings and consists of a 27-acre woodland behind the buildings and a grassland and lawn area in front of the buildings. It is on the highest point on the north side of the City of Madison with a magnificent view of Lake Mendota.

The site offers walking trails throughout the woods and front lawn area and provides a pleasant setting for picnicking and taking in the views. The park is located north of Northport Drive. A small designated parking area and trailhead with an informational kiosk is located behind the Dane County Human Services buildings near the water tower on the site.
